Joanna Roberts awarded the MBE

My partner Joanna was awarded the MBE in February 2004 for services to education and charity in Hackney. She was resident in Ashley Court in Hackney until she died. We went to Buckingham Palace so she could receive the MBE from the Queen. She had mostly been a volunteer at Benthal Primary School after having been a employed there as a teaching assistant. She also gave lessons which were intended to be illustrative of those in Victorian times at the Ragged School Museum in Tower Hamlets. The photo shows the three of us outside Buckingham Palace after the ceremony.  Our daughter Nancy is the third person in the picture.
